Description
A glimpse into Todd's creative outpouring from September and October 2025, My Second Rodeo, Part 1 finds him back at the Purple Building in East Nashville, chasing what he called “the sound of country music 10 years from now”.
That meant taking his favourite country tropes apart and rebuilding them over stretched-out, swampy grooves with New Orleans-style horns. Confident in the feel and in his studio band’s pliability, Todd recorded vocal and guitar first, with no accompaniment or click track, so the band would have to follow wherever he led.
By mid-October, he had finished vocal, guitar, and rhythm section recordings for at least an album’s worth of material, originally aiming for a double album. After Todd passed away, his band used the notes, emails, voice memos, demos, directions, and encouragement he left behind to complete his final work as closely as possible.
