Description
MPLS Unplugged marks 30 years since Soul Asylum's legendary 1993 MTV Unplugged performance, recorded live at Minneapolis' State Theatre on April 20, 2023, nearly three decades to the day. Stripped back for the first time in years, the band sounds intimate, expansive, and emotionally sharp.
Dave Pirner leads alongside Ryan Smith, Jeremy Tapparo, and Michael Bland, with Ivan Neville returning on keys. Also featured are STRINGenius string quartet and the Robert Robinson gospel singers, echoing the 1993 lineup while refreshing the acoustic arrangements.
The set reaches deep into the catalogue and captures Soul Asylum's enduring live energy, including Farmer John and What Will Become of Me, two songs long played live but never previously recorded or officially released. More than four decades on, the band keeps evolving while staying true to its emotional core.
