Description
One of the greatest American musicals of all time meets one of the greatest jazz labels ever established on West Side Story, the Oscar Peterson Trio’s interpretations of selections from Leonard Bernstein’s acclaimed Broadway score. Impeccably produced by Norman Granz, this 1962 album joins Peterson on piano with longtime bassist Ray Brown and drummer Ed Thigpen. With spirited articulations of West Side Story's most beloved selections, including “Jet Song,” “Tonight,” “I Feel Pretty” and the immortal “Somewhere,” the album continues an occasional throughline in Peterson’s Verve discography: swinging, dramatic takes on music from beloved stage works like Porgy & Bess and Fiorello! Verve Acoustic Sounds Series titles are mastered from the original analog tapes by Matthew Lutthans, pressed on 180-gram vinyl at Quality Record Pressings (QRP) and packaged in high-quality tip-on gatefold jackets.
