Description
Mel Tormé was in peak form on Swings Shubert Alley, his 1960 set of Broadway standards with the renowned Marty Paich Orchestra. It is a brilliant meeting of musical theatre and jazz, and remains one of the standout releases from Tormé’s Verve years.
Tormé brings real spark and style to songs by Lerner and Loewe, Rodgers and Hammerstein, and Cole Porter. Highlights include On the Street Where You Live, Hello, Young Lovers, The Surrey with the Fringe on Top, and Too Darn Hot, all delivered with his unmistakable vocal touch.
