Description
Carl Perkins is known as the King of Rockabilly for the contributions he made to popular music at the birthplace of rock and roll, Sun Records. His post-Sun career was full of twists and turns, and only dedicated rockabilly fans were aware he continued to perform and record. One such dedicated fan was Bill Lloyd, of the country/Americana duo Foster & Lloyd, who produced three tracks with Perkins at RCA Studios in Nashville in 1990. They continued collaborating, but this time in Perkins’ pool house at his home in Jackson, Tennessee. These never-before-heard recordings were located on a DAT in Lloyd’s archive in 2024 and showcase Perkins’ freewheeling rockabilly style and classic baritone vocals near the end of his career. His two musician sons Stan and Greg Perkins are featured on the pool house tracks. Standout tracks include “Some Things Never Change,” “Memphis In The Meantime,” and Perkins’ take on the Sun classic “Get Rhythm.”
