Description
The Chicago-born trombonist Bennie Green made his Blue Note debut with his delightful 1958 album Back on the Scene featuring a stellar quintet with saxophonist Charlie Rouse, pianist Joe Knight, bassist George Tucker, and drummer Louis Hayes. From buoyant swing to Latin grooves to tender ballads the band delivers a thoroughly enjoyable program that presents standards "I Love You," "Just Friends," "You're Mine You" as well as Green's original "Bennie Plays the Blues" and a pair of compositions by the wonderful jazz composer and fellow trombonist Melba Liston "Melba's Mood," "Green Street."
